Veronica Kunkel | Director of Food & Nutritional Services
Why did you choose a career path in senior healthcare?
My work with senior care started when I was in college and completed an internship at a senior retirement center while studying to be a dietitian. When I graduated, I pursued a position in long term care because I had developed a passion for older individuals and wanted to work in an environment which facilitated longer term relationships with residents. Thirty years later, I am excited to still be working in senior living and doing everything it takes for our residents to enjoy delicious and nutritious food!
Name your best work moment.
A recent favorite work moment was last week when the daughter of a resident shared that we were wonderful and that she was very happy that she chose The Oaks of West Kettering to take care of her mother. She shared that her mother was happy with our food and was doing much better since she came to live at The Oaks of West Kettering. That is what I love to hear!
What do you look most forward to at work?
My favorite time at work is when we get together with residents and staff to celebrate the holidays. We put a lot of planning and effort into the gatherings and events we plan with residents and it is gratifying to see all the food, music and décor come together in a big way to help the residents enjoy every moment of their day.
Favorite thing to do outside of work?
My favorite thing to do outside of work is hanging out with my family and friends. We often do outdoor activities like hiking, camping, boating, canoeing, etc. I am also very fond of gardening and have quite a green thumb I’m in the process of developing.
